The Canadian Committee on Women’s and Gender History was organized at the 1975 meeting of the Learned Societies and is currently affiliated with the Canadian Historical Association. With over 200 active members, it is the largest committee affiliated with the CHA. Its goals include promoting teaching and research in the field of women’s and gender history; disseminating information about sources, current research and publications; encouraging the preservation of archival sources in women’s and gender history; linking researchers, professors, teachers and students with each other and with other similar organizations in other countries; monitoring the status of women and folks who experience gender marginalization in the historical profession and working to raise that status.
To fulfill its mandate the CCWGH engages in a wide range of activities. They include the following: compiling, publishing and distributing our Newsletter and Directory; adjudicating the Hilda Neatby Prize; promoting meetings and conferences at local and regional levels; and sponsoring various sessions on women’s and gender history during the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Historical Association.

Le Comité canadien de l’histoire des femmes et du genre a été fondé en 1975 lors de la rencontre des Sociétés savantes et est présentement affilié à la Société historique du Canada. Les principaux objectifs sont de promouvoir l’enseignement et la recherche dans le domaine de l’histoire des femmes et du genre; diffuser de l’information sur les sources, les recherches en cours et les publications récentes; encourager la conservation de sources archivistiques en histoire des femmes et du genre; faciliter les communications et les échanges entre et parmi les chercheur-e-s, les enseignant-e-s et les étudiant-e-s dans ce domaine et avec des associations semblables à l’étranger, veiller sur le statut professionnel des femmes et les gens qui connaissent la marginalisation des sexes en histoire et chercher à hausser ce dernier.
Afin de remplir sa mission, le CCHFG s’adonne à plusieurs activités, dont les plus importantes sont: publier et distribuer le Bulletin et le Répertoire du CCHF; sélectionner les récipiendaires du Prix Hilda Neatby; promouvoir des réunions et des congrès au niveau local et au niveau régional; et parrainer des sessions sur l’histoire des femmes et du genre lors du Congrès annuel de la Société historique du Canada.
